Pépé le moko is presented in its original theatrical aspect ratio of 1.33:1. This new digital transfer was created from a 35mm fine-grain master positive, which, in turn, was created from the original 35mm nitrate camera negative and additional film elements restored by StudioCanal in Paris under the supervision of Michel Rocher and Brigitte Dutray. Certain imperfections in the negative have been retained in order to preserve the richness of the black and white. The soundtrack was mastered from a restored digital audio master. To further enhance the image, the MTI Digital Restoration System was used to remove thousands of instances of dirt, debris, and scratches. The soundtrack was mastered at 24-bit; audio restoration tools were used to reduce clicks, pops, hiss, and crackle.
