8 1/2 is presented in its original aspect ratio of 1.85:1. This new digital transfer, enhanced for widescreen televisions, was created on a high-definition Spirit Datacine from a 35mm fine-grain master made from the original negative. To further enhance the image, the MTI Digital Restoration system was used to remove thousands of instances of dirt, debris, and scratches. The sound was mastered from a 35mm magnetic audio track.
